Long-Term Disability (LTD)

Effective March 1, 2024: As a result of the competitive bid process, MetLife was awarded the contract for Voluntary Life, AD&D, and LTD benefits.

Who is Eligible?

LTD Insurance coverage is available to all permanent full-time employees (including temporary, full-time faculty with at least an academic year contract), or permanent, part-time employees (including temporary, part-time faculty with at least an academic year contract) who are scheduled to work every pay period for at least 50 percent of full-time.

Benefits elected within the first 31 days of eligibility will be issued without evidence of good health. If you wish to elect at any other time, evidence of good health will be required.


How much coverage can I get?

Option 1, 180-day waiting period - $0.168 per $100 of monthly covered earnings
Option 2, 90-day waiting period - $0.192 per $100 of monthly covered earnings


How to Calculate Your Bi-weekly Cost:
Step 1:
Find the above Monthly rate corresponding to the disability plan you wish to elect.
Step 2: Divide your annual salary by 12 to calculate your monthly earnings.
Step 3: Multiply rate (Step 1) by your monthly earnings (Step 2), or $8,333, whichever is less, for your monthly disability benefit.
Step 4: Divide (Step 3) by 100. The result is your Monthly cost.
Step 5: Multiply your Monthly cost (Step 4) by 12 for your annual cost.
Step 6: Divide your Annual cost (Step 5) by your pay frequency (20 or 26) to determine your bi-weekly payroll deduction amount.
